We have all seen Hollywood blockbusters, and we are all impressed by their grand ideas and breathtaking sound. Various types of Chinese films are also favored by audiences all over the world, including martial arts films, action films and dramas. But there are few Chinese costume epics shot with the technical and artistic techniques of Hollywood blockbusters. Chinese films have always carried the legacy of many Chinese cultures, including the spirit of martial arts. Through the film as a carrier, we can express our spiritual sustenance and cultural aspirations at different levels. Therefore, I have always hoped to change the routine of martial arts films, but to use the method of drama to shoot an epic feature film that reflects the heroes of all walks of life during the Three Kingdoms period. I've had this dream ever since I first came across the story of the Three Kingdoms.
The story of "Red Cliff" is the most famous and classic battle example in Chinese history. I believe that with our smart and dedicated team, coupled with the latest film technology, we will surely be able to shoot a Chinese war epic that is no less than a Hollywood blockbuster. Through real shooting and post-production special effects, we have almost perfectly restored the thrilling war scenes in ancient China. This is unprecedented in previous Chinese films. In making this film, my goal was to transcend the barriers of cultural and historical background, allowing Western audiences to enjoy the Asian version of Troy, while also allowing Eastern audiences to find new perspectives from this familiar story. At the same time, I also hope to prove to the world that we Chinese are fully capable of making Chinese films of the Hollywood blockbuster level.
For me, the most attractive part of the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is not the mythical characters, but the real heroism displayed by these characters. There are so many different kinds of heroes in our world, and my favorites are the flesh-and-blood heroes. There are many similarities between the characters of the Three Kingdoms and the heroes in my mind. I firmly believe that human emotions are universal and not held by cultural backgrounds. Morality, ethics, and friendship, which are admired in the West, are also in the East. Although the expressions are different, our emotions are fundamentally the same. Because of this, I deliberately ignored a lot of details in the novel when shooting "Chibi". The members of our huge cast come from different countries, including China, the United States, Japan and South Korea. These people from East and West have both learned a lot from each other in their collaboration. At the same time, our filming has also received strong support from government departments at all levels in China. I firmly believe that Chinese films are on the right track and will rise on the world stage in the near future, conquering audiences all over the world with their diverse themes and charismatic stars.
