Rebel Without a Cause Inspiration and script

"Revolt without a Cause" is inspired by two aspects. One is that Nicholas Ray feels extremely painful about his responsibilities as a father; the other is that Stein is extremely angry about himself as a son of man. But the point of view of this film is ultimately placed on the young people. The story of the film is directed by the director Nicholas Ray himself on the streets and chatting with the youth gang. The specific ideas come from newspapers and magazines, and the results of conversations with children, police, and parents. After the collection of real stories from many sources, this story was born  .
Among them, in the scene of "off-campus teaching" in the planetarium, Stein joined the screenwriter, because the two screenwriters originally sent by Warner Company failed to show the "sense of the universe" in this scene, and only used the planetarium as a venue. But Rey was persuaded to retreat. In Stein’s script, the science and education films shown in the planetarium have a strong symbolic meaning, indicating the final tragedy.  .

very melodramatic + overusing freudian analysis as seen through modern lenses. but no doubt it was an icon of the 50s, unnameable existential angst - the end of the world scene "man existing alone...little consequence""what does he know about man alone"

The scars after the war are just not my favorite. It really takes a sense of familiarity to move people. In 55, Dean was killed in a car accident on a highway at the age of 24; in 76, Sermi Neo, who played Plato, was attacked and died in the parking lot of his apartment, at the age of 37; in 81, Natalie Wood, who played Judy Drowned in the sea, 43 years old. "Using strong performances and powerful almost expressionist imagery to highlight the inner torture"

Rebel Without a Cause quotes

  • Jim Stark: I'll bet you'd go to a hanging.

Plato: I guess it's just my morbid personality.

  • Plato: Do you think the end of the world will come at nighttime?

    Jim Stark: Uh-uh, at dawn.
