Marilyn Klein (Anne Heche), a young female secretary living in Phoenix, Arizona, falls in love with Sam Loomis (Viggo Mortensen), a man from California. Their love path is not all smooth sailing. Marilyn dreams of marrying her lover, but Sam must use the income for the upfront alimony. A beautiful marriage is nowhere in sight. One day, Marilyn was entrusted by her boss to bring 400,000 cash to the bank to deposit. Unbearable the depression of life, she flees with the money, ready to use the money to start a new life with Sam. Marilyn drove all the way to escape, but stopped due to bad weather. She came to a motel to rest and was received by the young host Norman Bates (Vince Vaughn), but she didn't know that a nightmare had just begun.
