The story takes place in the 14th to 16th centuries, when the Muromachi shogunate in Kyoto was weak in ruling power, and the samurai overwhelmed the nobles. In terms of culture, both the culture of the nobility and the martial arts is influenced by Zen Buddhism. At the end of the 14th century, the Kitayama culture represented by the Kinkakuji Temple was forced to live in seclusion to the northeast of Honshu by the people of the Silver Pavilion at the end of the 15th century. In 1300, the Ezo people had integrated into Japanese society.
The Ezo tribe where Ashitaka (transliteration of ashitaca, also translated as "flying bird") is located in the northeastern part of Japan. One day a Cthulhu from the West wanted to invade the village where Ashitaka was located. This Cthulhu was transformed from a cursed wild boar god. Seeing the Cthulhu stepping forward, Ashidaka stepped forward. Although he later killed the Wild Boar God, he was also cursed by the Cthulhu God and his life could not be saved. In order to resolve the mystery of the curse and save himself, Ashidaka followed the instructions of the witch in the village to go to the west to find out and find a way out.
On the way, he found out that the patron saint of the forest, the mountain beast god, could resolve this curse, so he set off for the forest. On the way, he rescued two iron ore transporters who fell into the valley, and met Shan (also translated as Sang) for the first time. The two men were the refiners of Ebbsie (also translated as Lord Black Hat, Lord Fantasy). The people of the iron field, the iron workshop of Ebbsie is near the forest. In order to mine the ore, the people of Ebbsie destroy the forest and attack the animals in the forest to protect their world. Therefore, Ebbsie and the animals in the forest have some Qiu's, especially the White Wolf God who lives in the forest.
Ashitaka sent the two men back to the iron workshop. In the iron workshop, he uncovered the cursed mystery of the wild boar god: Ebbsey attacked the forest with a gun, and the wild boar god, the god of Nago, who guarded the forest was hit. Her musketeer turned into a demon because of hatred. Ashidaka also discovered that Aibosi had invented a very powerful gun in order to kill the mountain beast god and occupy the forest. That night, Shan came to attack the iron workshop. She was actually the daughter of a human being raised by the White Wolf God and abandoned by humans. Shan is in a critical situation when the enemy is widowed, but Ashitaka is bent on saving her, and is shot for this, and her life is at stake. The rescued Shan began to be hostile to Ashitaka, but was finally moved by Ashitaka's sincerity and bravery. Ashitaka was seriously injured, and Shan decided to take him to the forest to let the mountain beast god save him.
The mountain beast god rescued Ashidaka. At this time, the wild boar herd, which was deeply harassed by humans, decided to fight hard to save her home forest. Shan who loved the forest wanted to protect the guardian of the forest (the wild boar herd) and left. Ashitaka was thrown into the battle between the wild boars and the combined forces of Abesi and the samurai. Ebbsie and the others are also prepared for this. Their ultimate goal is not to destroy the wild boar herd, but to use them as bait to find and destroy the Qishan beast god. On the other hand, when Ebbsey led her male soldiers to destroy the Qishan Beast God, her iron workshop was attacked by court warriors, and only women defended the city. When the iron workshop was attacked in a precarious manner, Ashitaka coming. It turned out that after leaving Shan, he was also attacked by the court's skirmishers. He learned that Ebbsey had attacked the forest outside the ironworks. In order to save the mountain beast god, and at the same time to inform Ebbsey to return to save her workshop, he set off again toward the forest.
In the battle between Ebersey and the wild boar herd, the wild boar herd was almost wiped out, leaving only the wild boar god B, Shan and the white wolf god. They were retreating towards the island of the mountain beast god. In order to find the mountain beast god, Ebbsey and the samurai army put on wild boar skin and painted wild boar blood to disguise their identity. They tracked the retreating wild boar god and Shan, and when they were approaching the island of the mountain beast god, The army surrounded the wild boar god and Shan and attacked them. The angry wild boar god was about to become a demon, and Shan who was on him to save him would also be implicated. Ashitaka, who had just arrived to save Shan, was unable to do so. Seeing that the situation was irretrievable, the Mountain Beast God superseded the life of the Wild Boar God and thus prevented the Wild Boar God from turning into a Cthulhu God. At the same time, Ashidaka rescued Shan with the help of the White Wolf God. Ebbsie took the opportunity to shoot down the mountain beast. Seeing this, the White Wolf god furiously bit off Ebbsie's arm, and then died. The angry mountain beast god absorbs life to retrieve his head. In order to save the forest, Ashitaka and Shan finally helped the mountain beast god to get its head back. The mountain beast god, who had lost his head, fell to the ground and died when the sun came out, giving new vitality to the earth in an instant with his own death.
After saving the forest, Shan is still unable to let go of the crime of humans destroying the forest. She chooses to return to the forest. Ashitaka respects Shan's choice (the dialogue between the two here reflects the contradiction between humans and nature, which still cannot be resolved) After choosing to live in Dadala (iron factory), he would ride a wildebeest to see Shan, and the two smiled farewell in the lush green mountains.
