The BBC has adapted the "Poldark" series. The original series premiered between 1975 and 1977 and aired for two seasons. Robin Ellis played the British officer Ross Poldark in the play.
In the original book, the protagonist Ross Poldark experienced the American Revolution and returned to his hometown of Cornwall after the war, when he found that his fiancée Elizabeth Chynoweth thought he was dead and was engaged to his cousin Francis Poldark
. Ross redeveloped the family tin mine for a living. A few years later, he let go of his old love for Elizabeth and married the maid Demelza Carne. At this point Elizabeth has become a widow, remarried to Ross's rival George Warleggan.
There are 12 books in the "Poldark" series. The first seven books describe the stories of characters such as Ross Poldark, and the last seven books describe the stories of the descendants of the main characters.
