Nicole Kidman was supposed to play Meg Atman, and Haydn Panettiere was to play her daughter Sarah. But before the filming started, the leading actors were replaced by Judy Foster and Kristen Stewart.
Devi Chase participated in the audition for the role of her daughter Sarah, but in the end she lost to Christine Stewart.
Judy Foster was pregnant with her second child when filming the film. Therefore, the reshoots in the film that exceeded the original schedule can only be made up after her production in the autumn of 2001.
David Fincher's 1995 "Seven Deadly Sins" screenwriter starred as Meg's neighbor in the film.
The screenwriter David Cape got the inspiration for the story of the film from an article about "safe houses" in The New York Times. He himself had the experience of being trapped in the elevator of his brownstone house. It took him only 6 days to write the first draft of the play.
David Fincher said that Christine Stewart's height increased by more than 3 inches during the filming period. She was originally shorter than Judy Foster, but after the final shot, she was already taller than her.
All the indoor shots are shot sequentially as they appear in the movie.
The mobile phone model used by Judy Foster in this film is NOKIA8890. This silver slider phone is often mistaken for the one in The Matrix.
The entire installation of the Shake Room was pre-made according to Nicole Kidman as the protagonist. As a result, after changing the angles, Judy Foster was often irritated by the green safety laser on the door so that nothing could be seen when entering and leaving the Shake Room.
