Five years after the end of the American Civil War, veteran military officer Captain Jefferson Kyle Kiddnow travels from town to town as a newspaper reader, sharing the president and queen with local residents. He met Johanna Leonbergon the plains of Texas, a 10-year-old girl abducted and adopted by the Kiowa Indians 6 years ago.
