But the basic point is clear (though not necessarily true) that the film aims to point out that artistic creation is not a sudden inspiration, but is held back by history, it is spoken by history. So does such a theme need to be expressed through melodrama with so many coincidences? I see some good reviews praising this film because it adds a new means of reflection (or alternative expression) to the classic melodrama. But I feel that it is the fact that the alternative expression is embedded in this melodramatic framework that makes the movie so-so.
