The film is a semi-autobiographical work by the screenwriter and starring Nia Vadalas. She is a Greek Canadian and lives in a large Tula family. He became an actor by chance, and later went to Chicago to perform in the TV series "Second City", where he met her husband Ian. Like the movie, Ian is a non-Greek. The family accepted this marriage and went through many difficulties. Niya wrote this experience into a one-man drama book, which was staged in Los Angeles.
