In the mid-1980s, when gay movies were not so widespread, this low-key film that mixed racial and gay issues had attracted considerable attention in the international film scene. Actor Daniel Day Lewis became famous in one fell swoop. The script comes from the handwriting of the Pakistani playwright Hangul Kushshi, who lives in the UK. It has a clear theme and a unique observation of contemporary British social conditions. Director Fries shot the unique drama of this subject.
