The film is based on the screenplay of the playwright Tarrell McCartney's "Black Boy Melancholy in the Moonlight". Director Jenkins took inspiration from Hou Xiaoxian's film "The Best Time" and changed the stage script to a three-stage script. Narrative structure. The story lines in the movie all come from the childhood experiences of McCartney and Jenkins. Both grew up in the hot and humid Miami in the 1980s. Both were children who grew up in single-parent families. Both mothers had cocaine addictionand both had experience of being bullied in school. McCartney was protected by a drug dealer in his childhood, and was swimming by his church. The lack of water and electricity at home is common, so the story of Chiron almost comes from their private autobiographical memories.
