The film only took 33 days to complete the shooting.
During the filming of the film, there was a screenwriter's strike, which caused the suspension of several films of Shepperton Production Company. The director of the film, Duncan Jones, said that it happened that other films had been suspended, so he could find a few top special effects productions in the industry. The division joined this independently produced low-cost science fiction film.
Those outdoor shots that took place on the moon were taken with models, and all outdoor shots were taken in three days.
After the filming was completed, it was shown to NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) scientists. These scientists asked the director why helium-3 was mined on the dark side of the moon, because on the bright side of the moon, helium-3 reserves are higher. In this regard, the director’s explanation is that mining helium-3 on the dark side will not affect the animals living on the bright side.
Duncan Jones, formerly known as Zover Bowie or Joey Bowie, is the son of rock legend David Bowie and ex-wife Angela Bowie.
