Mommy movie plot

The story takes place in Canada in the near future. The government promulgated a new law. All parents must be responsible for children with psychological problems or send them to a detention center. The protagonists of the film are the middle-aged widow Diane and the son Steve who suffers from attention deficit disorder. Both Diane and Steve have their own personality flaws, and they are not mere victims or villains. Their dialogue is full of gunpowder, occasionally escalated into physical contact, and at the same time faintly makes people feel a kind of intimacy that transcends the norm, but the script does not expand on this point. The protagonist of the film is no longer the middle-class bohemian hippie in Dolan’s previous works, but a struggling working class, struggling but full of hope. The vitality and vulgarity that burst out of the characters at the same time give the film a natural reveal. When a shy, stuttering neighbor, Keira, enters the lives of mother and son, "Mommy" changes from a dualistic balance to a strange triangle world. These three people form a family unit, and each of them is released from their personal confinement, at least temporarily.
