"Miami Vice" earned about $25.2 million in box office revenue on the 3rd of the past weekend, beating "Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Treasure of the Dead", which had occupied the top spot for three consecutive weeks, and became the North American movie box office champion.
"Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Soul Gathering Coffin", which slipped to the runner-up position last week, has reduced the number of theaters this week to 3,436, retiring to third place with a performance of approximately $11 million. Compared with the endurance of pirates, the lacklustre performance of "Miami Vice" is quite unsatisfactory. Although "Mai", which still maintains the radiation range of about 3,000 theaters, fell to fourth place on the list with a dismal box office of more than $9 million, a drop of more than 60%.
The film was shown in US theaters for nearly a month and only earned $63 million in the box office, which is more than one-third less than the company's expected goal of $100 million.
