"Mars Needs Moms" is adapted from the comic book of the same name created by Berkeley Brady in 2007. The story is inspired by an argument between Berkeley Brady's son and his wife, so he created this story based on his son. His son is also called Melo.
Although the film is called an animated cartoon, because of the use of motion and expression capture technology, all the shots need to be completed by the actors themselves. Then paste the movement and expression data obtained by the camera and computer to the virtual character, and complete a shot through rendering, post-processing, and color correction. In two-thirds of the film, Melo played by Seth Benjamin Gesshel-Green is in an outer space environment where there is no microgravity. In order to truly show the expressions and reactions of people in a microgravity environment, in the film For most of the shooting time, Seth Benjamin Gesshel-Green was bolted to a flight system similar to Wia to simulate a microgravity environment. Joan Cusack , who played the role of her mother , also put on this device in the scenes where she appeared on the surface of Mars
