The film landed on the North American theaters in advance on the evening of May 14, 2015, and earned US$3.7 million that night. The film expanded to 3,702 theaters across the United States on May 15 and received 16.77 million US dollars on the first day including early shows. It performed strongly and ranked second on that day. The film received another 16.27 million US dollars on Saturday, an increase of 24% compared to Friday (excluding midnight shows); and its gross income reached 44.44 million US dollars during the three-day weekend.
This opening score has surpassed the cumulative box office of the highest one of the top three, although it is not eye-catching relative to its $150 million production cost. However, in view of the high reputation of the film, it is not a big problem to break through the cost line, and the film made 65 million US dollars in the first weekend in 68 overseas markets.
