To a certain extent, the director of the film was influenced by the " Tsim Sha Tsui shooting", and Xu Bugao in the case was the prototype of Gao Zhiwei in the film. In the early morning of March 17, 2006, three police officers drew their guns and bombed each other in a pedestrian tunnel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, causing two deaths and one injury. One of the two deceased was off-duty police officer Xu Bugao. The pistol he used at the time was confirmed to be the gun of police officer Liang Chengen who was killed on March 14, 2001 , and the gun was suspected to be related to multiple homicides. The other deceased was Police Constable Zeng Guoheng who died after being shot in the face. Afterwards, the circumstances of the case became more diversified under the speculation of the media and the public. Some people referred to the suspect as a "double-faced monster" and had multiple personalities. Some of Xu Bugao's former partners still didn't believe that he was the suspect after the incident. The police believed that Xu Bugao was a deeply hidden crime with high IQ, believed that his actions were consistent with the "confusion theory" of criminology, and stated that the case did not involve the fourth person. But all the mysteries became more confusing with Xu Bugao's death. At that time, about 50% of the respondents in Hong Kong believed that the police concealed the facts of the shooting for their own benefit, and even lied publicly.
