In 2006, hundreds of letters were found underground on Iwo Jima. That was the last thing left to the family by the soldiers fighting on this island 61 years ago-the last farewell letter to the family. These unsent letters pin their hopes.
At the end of World War II, the defeat of the Midway Island naval battle announced that the Japanese army began to embark on a path of complete defeat on the Pacific battlefield. When the powerful offensive of the US military spread to the seemingly small Iwo Jima, which was filled with the flames of war, the Japanese army, headed by Lieutenant Su Lin Zhongdao, faced the attack of the powerful US army, but adopted a stubborn resistance strategy. The cunning Japanese army used natural caves, mines and artificial tunnels on Iwo Jima to deal with the US army. However, the American army was determined to win, but relying on its strong military strength, it took an increasingly cruel offensive against the stubbornly resisting Japanese army. Su Lin Zhongdao knew that the Japanese army could not resist the ferocious American army, but he still took the lead and fought with his accomplices to the last moment. In fact, the Japanese military officer had already expressed his knowledge and concerns about his current situation as early as in a letter to his family. On the eve of Japan's complete defeat, Su Lin Tadao, who was still unwilling to disarm and surrender, eventually committed suicide on Iwo Jima. His letter from Iwo Jima has become a powerful way for future generations to examine this period of history.
