"Lay the Favorite" is adapted from the novel "Lay the Favorite: A Memoir of Gambling" by Beth Reimer.
The Weinstein Company bought the distribution rights for this film for only $2 million. The cost of shooting this movie is ten times that of 20 million U.S. dollars.
The film was filmed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in April 2011. Later, the crew moved to New Orleans and New York City to shoot.
Justin Randall Timberlake was once an actor candidate for a role in the film, but this role was eventually handed over to VinceVaughn .
