For his beloved deceased wife, he is determined to go to Tokyo’s Sakura Village alone,
To fulfill an unfulfilled dream for his wife.
Rudy ( Elmar Wepper ) and Du Li are a loving couple. They are content with their lives and live a quiet life in the German countryside.
Until one day, when Du Li learned from the doctor that her husband Rudy was terminally ill, she decided to conceal the truth from her husband and seize the time to accomplish what they have been looking forward to doing. She persuaded Rudy to accompany her to visit their children in Berlin, but when they arrived in Berlin, they found that the busy children had no time to pay attention to them, and the two had to go to the'Baltic Sea' for vacation.
But Rudy woke up the next morning and found that Du Li had died quietly in her sleep. Heartbroken Rudy learned from friends that Du Li, who loved him so much, gave up many lives and dreams for him. Determined to meet his beloved wife again, Rudy did his best to fulfill her wish, so he came to Japan.
Rudy went to Tokyo alone. He was unfamiliar with his life. Fortunately, he was led by a Japanese dancer. During the beautiful cherry blossom season in Tokyo, he greeted him with a short but new splendid life. With his own eyes and heart, he will watch Du Li's favorite "Japanese dance step" during his lifetime, as well as the cherry blossoms in Tokyo and the magnificent Mount Fuji .
Doris Dörrie , who was heavily influenced by Yasujiro Ozu , took a sample of " Tokyo Story " for his new work . An old German man who had just been widowed went to Tokyo to fulfill his wife's wish. Unfamiliar with his life, he was lucky enough to be led by a Japanese dancer, praising the beautiful cherry blossom season in Tokyo, welcoming his short but new splendid life. The film unfolds from the small town of Algoy in southern Germany, and the scenes cover Japan, Berlin , the Baltic Sea and other places; "Tokyo Sakura" also points out the fleeting impermanence of life.
