The film was shot in Iceland and Canada. Due to the use of complete 3D production, except for the scenes of actors climbing icebergs, encountering blizzards, and running on snowy mountains in the film, which were shot in Iceland, the rest of the scenes were all shot in a large-scale photography in Montreal, Canada. Finished in a shed and a park. For example, all parts of the underwater world in the film were shot in the studio, while the house of the female guide Hannah and the Italian farm at the end of the film were shot in Montreal's parks. The film took 48 days to complete the shooting, which is very fast for an action-adventure film.
"Journey to the Center of the Earth" uses a 3D camera system produced by Walden and developed by director James Cameron. This camera has shot IMAX blockbusters such as "Abyss Phantom" and "Abyss Alien". This film is the first feature film of the "RealD" company.
