The filming and publicity of "Jaws" cost Universal US$30 million, making it the most expensive work of Universal before the 1980s. The film was released on June 16, 1978. In the first week, there were 640 movie theaters with a total of 9.86 million U.S. dollars, which made it to the top of the ranking. The final box office revenue for the US release was 81,766,007 U.S. dollars, and it was re-released afterwards. China successfully broke 100 million, and its overseas income was even higher, reaching US$106.11 million, for a total of US$187,884,007. As of 2004, the global box office of "Jaws 2" has reached 289 million. Stayed on the "Variety" magazine's list of top ten movies until the mid-1990s.
