In the first episode of "Hunted", special agent Sam Hunter (Melissa George) of Byzantium, a top private intelligence and security agency, went to Tangier, a port city on the north coast of Morocco, on a routine mission. However, in the process She was assassinated and almost lost her life. Sam didn't know who wanted to kill her, so he secretly hid in a remote place to heal her injuries and refresh her spirits. A year later, Sam, who had fully recovered, suddenly returned to work, shocking and suspicious of her colleagues—especially her secret lover Aidan Marsh (Adam Rayner). Although her bosses Rupert Keel (Stephen Dillane) and Deacon Crane (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) also doubt her whereabouts, they need her. She is their best agent, and only she can complete an important new task. They plan to allow Sam to infiltrate the family empire run by the ambitious billionaire Jack Turner (Patrick Malahide), a man who has a criminal history and is in conflict with Byzantium's top-secret clients.
This eight-episode mystery spy drama was created by Frank Spotnitz, the screenwriter and producer of The X Files, and starred Melissa George, nominated for the Golden Globe Award. Melissa George plays the well-trained, brave and fearless spy Sam Hunter in the play, working for the private intelligence agency Byzantium, which is inextricably linked to the global spy intelligence network. During an overseas operation, Sam was suddenly attacked by an unknown person and almost lost his life. After recovering and returning to work, Sam realized that the people who wanted to harm her might come from within the organization. Without knowing who to trust, Sam can only be careful. The play was filmed on the spot in Europe.
The play is mainly composed of two parts of the story: Byzantium's spy mission is the theme of each episode, and Sam Hunter looking for those who attempt to murder her is the main line of the entire episode. With the progress of the plot, it has become difficult for Sam to distinguish between friends and foes, not to mention that Byzantium company often engages in obscure activities, forcing Sam's actions to be carried out only in secret.
The producer said that the story in the play is to a large extent true, and he has adapted it based on the real-life experience of a number of private intelligence agencies. These private intelligence agencies and private security companies are sometimes more mysterious than government espionage agencies such as the CIA, because people do not know who their customers are and how they affect the global political economy. The producer confessed that Sam Hunter in the play is very similar to a British female spy he once met-in London alone, this kind of private security company is too large to count.
Actor Melissa George said that Sam Hunter's childhood experience is an important clue to understand the character's current situation (tough, cold, and ruthless).
