The protagonist of the story is a teenager who is suspected of stealing things-Stanley Yelnats IV (Stanley Yelnats IV). As if fate, the Yenaci family has been unlucky for generations. Therefore, it is not surprising that Stanley was convicted of stealing because of the unfair trial. Fortunately or unfortunately, he has another opportunity to choose a place to serve his sentence. He can be transferred to Green Lake Camp in Texas for an American-style "labor reform" in exchange for exemption from prison.
Stanley, who chose to go to "Green Lake Camp", did not know that this was the beginning of a more tragic fate. The "Green Lake Camp" located in the desert of Texas has long gone without a lake, and it can't be compared with ordinary summer camps for children. The administrators in the Green Lake Camp are not just gentlemen, and always make things difficult for the juvenile delinquents who are trained here. What's more, there is a very strange rule here: Every child must dig at least a five-foot-deep hole in the dry river bed every day! Their administrator always said that these obviously meaningless hard work was to hone their personality, but Stanley felt that the motivation was not simple, and decided to dig out the truth with his new partners.
Sure enough, it didn't take long for Stanley to discover that all this was because the administrator had been secretly searching for the treasure buried under the riverbed by the Western Bandit. What is even more mysterious is that these treasures seem to have inextricable connections with the ancestors of the Yenac family. With the development of the plot, one by one, the mystery is gradually solved. Many things in life are really the arrangements of fate, and everything nowadays is already doomed a few generations before the Yenatz family!
