The film actually talks about possession under the surface of the love story. Even the protagonist does not know whether his feelings are love or possession, or the two are inherently inseparable. This ambiguous theme conception provides space for the director to play.
In addition to the retro style throughout the film, the director's use of color, composition, mirroring and music choices are also bolder. What the director is trying his best to create is a flashy, fragile, and colorful contemporary Rococo emotional picture. As a result, he used the Spanish cover version of the song "Bang Bang My Baby shot me down" in many places in the film, making this sad song thick and sticky, like greasy cream smeared on a large area of bright color blocks.
