"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was filmed at the Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, England in late spring 2004. They were shot in Leavesden, Oxford University, Virginia Water in Surrey, Ashridge in Hertfordshire, and Nevis Canyon in Scotland.
The two biggest challenges of the filming work are to bring the grand Christmas celebration ball at Hogwarts to the screen and how to vividly show the dangerous and exciting three-stage competition of the Triwizard Tournament. The first event of the competition was Harry's confrontation with a huge fire-breathing Hungarian hornet. For the shooting of this scene, the special effects department produced a 30-foot-tall dragon equipped with a flamethrower. The second event requires young magicians to dive to the bottom of the lake and fight against a water monster called Grindillo to rescue their friends. The film crew built the deepest underwater shooting box in Europe. Daniel Radcliffe, Robert Pattison, Stanislav Ivanesch and Clemence Boyce spent a lot of time studying diving.
Before the grand scene of the dance party, all the young actors took a dance class. For this play, the art department transformed the huge hall of the auditorium into a winter wonderland of silver ice and snow. The costume design department produced a series of gorgeous evening gowns, including Ron’s old-fashioned robes.
