Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden for stealing the forbidden fruit. To help them, Aziraphale, the angel guarding the city gate, gave them a burning sword. Crowley, the demon who turned into a snake to tempt Eve, stood on the wall of the Garden of Eden. He thought it was not very wise to plant a fruit tree in the middle of the garden with a warning sign of "Don't Touch" on it, which made people doubt God’s intention. However, Aziraphale firmly believes that this is part of her "unspeakable plan."
Aziraphale and Crowley have been living among humans since the Garden of Eden. For thousands of years, they have become accustomed to life on earth and have established mutually beneficial relationships without the knowledge of their superiors in heaven and hell. They are uneasy about the coming end of the world.
Crowley and hell mate Hasta were ordered by Satan to send the infant antichrist to a monastery of Satan nuns, who exchanged it with the newborn baby of an American diplomat. When the Antichrist is 11 years old, the world will end, but Aziraphale and Crowley hope to influence the boy to make him an ordinary child who is neither good nor evil, so as to avoid war between heaven and hell. For the next 11 years, Aziraphale and Crowley did their best to take care of the children whose prophecy would bring the end of the world.
Unfortunately, when the end was approaching, the antichrist hellhound did not appear by the boy's side, and Aziraphale and Crowley discovered that they had made a terrible mistake. Due to the chaos in the hospital, they spent years on the wrong child. The real antichrist was actually adopted by the Arthurs and lived in a quiet town in Tadfield, Oxfordshire. Other forces and factions are in restlessness, and the end of the world is still coming as expected
