In the sonorous music, the dancer Jerne watched the children dance, and he shook his head again and again. Jern is planning to choreograph a dance for someone he misses. His assistant took an old photo and speculated that the person worthy of his memory was Jaerne's adoptive father. Knowing that his adoptive father, who had taken care of him when he was a teenager, had passed away, Jern went back to the small village where he lived to attend the funeral. Outside the door of the chapel, the appearance of a boy who resembled his own childhood aroused his memories.
In 1944, a young Jernewas sent to the countryside by his mother because the war spread to Amsterdam. He was very unsuited to life in the country, especially the dogmatic rules of the church. He and his country friends lead a life of idleness all day long. When he was lonely, he stared at the lake alone; he also played with other children, but he was always bullied. Until one day, a group of Canadian soldiers entered their village. Their performances always make the people in the village laugh; they dance with the village girls and are loved by the people. Among them, the most sunny and handsome is a soldier named Walter, whose appearance caused layers of ripples in Jerne's young heart. Despite the language barrier, the two conveyed their emotions through their eyes. They danced and sang together, and sometimes Walter would take Jaeln on a ride in his army car and take him to the lake. One charming afternoon, they had sex. Both were immersed in a happy time. Until Jern's adoptive father found out about their relationship. The adoptive father forbade Jaern from interacting with Walter. But the bondage of the world can't stop the growth of love, and Jaern is still desperately infatuated with his soldiers. However, with the end of the war, Walter's troops also retreated to their own country. Walter didn't tell Jaeln, he couldn't bear to see him sad. Walter took photos for Jaeln and his adoptive father's family, and Jaelne hoped that Walter could also take pictures together. Walter hung his ID card on the scarecrow and took a photo with Jaeln instead of himself. When Jerne heard the news of the retreat of the garrison, he rushed to the barracks frantically, facing the empty house, he felt deeply lost. The war was over, and Jaern returned to his hometown with his mother. After that, he never saw the soldier he loved so much, the missing soldier. Jern's dance was almost finished, it was choreographed for the soldier. The assistant seemed to know what he was thinking. She handed him two photos, one was the group photo left behind, and the other was the enlarged soldier's identity card, which also surprised Jaeln.  .
