The play was written and directed by Jos Weiden, and co-executive producer with Tim McNair. Weiden once revealed that "Firefly" was inspired by a novel "The Killer Angels" about the Battle of Gettysburg in the Civil War. He hoped to follow the perspective of the defeated and describe the pioneering experience and nomadism. Life on the margins of civilization allows the audience and the characters in the play to find the meaning of life together. Weiden wanted to tell the story of human life in the universe. At that time, human beings had exhausted the energy of the earth and transferred to a new solar system, with a brand new planet and land, without any extraterrestrial creatures. In fact, it is more or less the same as now. Few have similarities. Although the story takes place in the future, with more advanced technology and a larger population, it faces the same problems as today.

opening song: Take my love, take my land / Take me where I cannot stand / I don't care, I'm still free / You can't take the sky from me / Take me out to the black / Tell 'em I ain't comin' back / Burn the land and boil the sea / You can't take the sky from me / There's no place I can be / Since I found serenity / But you can't take the sky from me

Agent McGuinness: I'm only doing my job.
