Director Huang Yiyu said, “People often see people who have experienced tornadoes, floods, collapsed buildings in catastrophe, or even unscathed in the TV news; but there will also be people drowning in a shallow ditch where the water level is less than their knees. The contrast between the tenacity and fragility of life is the inspiration for "Death is Coming"."
The producers Craig Perry and Warren Zide had already read a lot of scripts before deciding to change the film. Perry said, "Although the film was just a storyline at the time, it was outstanding." With the assistance of the two producers, Jeffrey Redick, who completed the first draft of the outline, made several revisions. Perry said, “In the beginning, the people who left the flight did not get in touch immediately, but started looking for each other after the tragedy happened. Later we changed this setting so that the film story revolves around a group of middle school students, and the theme of the story is the same. The idea is not limited to this."
New Line Film Company bought the film's story outline, and a year later invited Glenn Morgan and Huang Yiyu, who are good at creating suspense in the ordinary, to act as screenwriters and directors respectively. The two played in the TV series "X-Files" and "Millennium Chase". The excellent performance in "Fierce" once left a deep impression on the producers. When talking about the story of the film, Huang Yiyu said, "I believe that we have all had a hunch, and we have experienced the process from intuition to perception to fulfillment. Will we immediately realize that this is the result of fate."
The screenwriter Morgan said, "After taking over the script of the film, I began to think about the strange coincidences I had experienced. Once I suddenly heard the singing of John Denver while waiting for the plane at Vancouver Airport. Because he died in an air crash, I felt a little weird. We later wrote this experience into the script."
John Willett, who is in charge of the film’s art director, said, “The challenge we face is that we have to present something creepy, and at the same time you have no name. We don’t want to use some obvious methods, such as weird camera angles, and peculiarities. The light and dark colors, but I hope to focus on the subtleties.” The objects in the film are often slightly off-center. The main creators aim to express the changes around the seven survivors through these subtle details, and the film set is also Sparing no effort to reflect the character's mental state.
