The prototype of ET in the film was invited by the director to perform the design of, who designed aliens for "The Third Kind of Contact" . Its unique neck is derived from Rambaldi's painting "Women of Delta". ", the face is designed based on the faces of, Einstein, Hemingway and a pug. The film’s producer, Catherine Kennedy, went to the Jules Stein Eye Institute to study human eyes and glass eyeballs, and hired staff from the society to make ET eyes. The crew produced a total of four ET heads, one of which was used as a component of the machine, and the rest was used to complete facial expressions; ET's costume was worn and performed in turns by two dwarfs and a legless teenager. The ET that finally appeared in the film took three months to complete and cost up to 1.5 million US dollars.
