The director of Yamato Shoji Co., Ltd., Hirayama, and former Navy sergeant Mitsuko Koshiyoshi have been friends since middle school. They each have a daughter of marriageable age. Mikami's only daughter, Fumiko, disregarded her father's objection, and lives with her lover Naganuma, which makes Mikami unhappy all day long. After learning about this, Hirayama and his subordinate Kondo came to Fumiko's house, trying to persuade her to be considerate of her father. After Hirayama learned that Fumiko was also seriously considering marriage, she understood her thoughts and practices. However, when a similar thing happened to his eldest daughter, Setsuko, Hirayama's attitude changed immediately. Setsuko suddenly proposes to marry his beloved ordinary employee Masahiko Taniguchi, while Hirayama has other plans for his daughter's future. Hirayama, who advocates free love and deeply regrets the arrangement of his marriage when he was young, strongly opposes his daughter's choice. The father and daughter were in a stalemate. Soon after, Setsuko and Taniguchi held a wedding and followed her husband to Hiroshima. Hirayama, who looked unhappy at the wedding, made her daughter regret. Under the persuasion of friends, he reluctantly gave in and rushed to Hiroshima to send his belated blessings to his daughter.
