The story takes place in The United States of America in the 1960s. The Czech refugee Shama and his only son Keene immigrated to The United States of America and lived in a truck library rented from the town of policeman Bill and her wife Linda. Shama works in a factory that produces stainless steel sinks and makes some small accessories in her spare time to make money. She loves musicals and often goes to see musicals movies with her friend Casey, and participates in community musical rehearsals. Music is where her happiness lies. She is often immersed in the rhythm of music imagined from the monotonous and boring sounds of life. She often has a sweet and simple smile on her face.
When the kind-hearted Shama tells her secret to comfort the hypocritical Bill, the cruelty of reality pushes her to death. It turns out that Shama came to The United States of America to make money around the clock to get the help of The United States of America's advanced medical technology when her son turned 13 to cure his family's inherited eye disease. Shama's eyes will soon go blind due to this eye disease. When Shama was fired home from a factory accident caused by her almost blind eyes, she found that Bill had stolen all the money she had saved to treat her son. When the kind-hearted Shama found Bill alone to ask for her own money, she was slandered and planted by Bill. When Shama was competing with Bill for his wallet, Bill missed and shot himself. The wounded Bill wanted to commit suicide by using Shama's hand and held his wallet, forcing Shama to kill himself. Shama kept her promise to get her son treated, refused to tell the truth in court, and was convicted of first-degree murder and hanged within a week. My friend discovered the truth and tried to reverse the case, but Shama's determination to save money for her son's illness and death by herself did not change. In the end, Shama's life came to an abrupt end in her singing "that's all.".
