Copying Beethoven Tidbits

The film was shot on-site in the Budapest Museum of Anthropology and an old castle by the Danube.
In order to build Schlemmer's print shop, art designer Caroline Amis mastered all the processes of copper plate printing.
When filming the premiere of Beethoven's "Ninth Symphony" in the film, 600 candles were placed in the theater, and 8 "candle managers" were required to quickly light or extinguish the candles between each shot.
Although the filming scene was actually performed, the music in the film was actually a Decca recording version of the Amsterdam Royal Concert Hall Orchestra conducted by Bernard Heitink in 1996.
Costume designer Jenny Temin designed and produced 650 sets of costumes for the film. The styles of the costumes are inspired by the works of French painter Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres, and include 100 pieces All clothing and fabrics, including evening wear, are produced in London.
In order to play Beethoven well, Ed Harris prepared for several months, learning piano, violin and conducting, and read a lot of books about Beethoven.
