In a small town in Massachusetts in the United States in the early 1980s, a woman, Catalina Brown, was brutally murdered in her home, and her family’s belongings were also looted. Her neighbor, Kenny Waters, a gangster with a bad reputation since childhood, was wrongly accused of homicide and was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment.
Kenny’s younger sister, Betty Anna Watersfirmly believes that her brother is innocent, and is determined to redress for him. As a mother of two children who dropped out of high school and worked in a bar, Betty did not hesitate to sacrifice her youth and family to study law from the beginning. Through unremitting efforts, she finally obtained a bachelor's degree in law and finally qualified as a lawyer. Through cooperation with the "Innocent Project", a non-profit organization dedicated to overturning unjust, false and wrong cases, Betty and her collaborators used DNA testing (there was no DNA testing in the United States at the time of the case, and only blood type testing to assist Conviction), as well as testing witnesses. The investigation of perjury finally made Kenny's unjust case clear. Kenny was finally acquitted in 2001 after serving 18 years in prison
