The shooting started in June 2001. During the shooting, Paul was invited to help discuss some of the issues in the film; on the set, Fernando and Katilla often adopted some of his suggestions. Photographer Caesar Cuarón copied the novel paragraphs from the original work and pasted it on the door, so that a clear image of the character would be formed in his mind every time.
When Caesar set out to design the filming process, Fernando had already decided to use extras who actually lived in a slum environment to replace professional actors to shoot this film. He thinks this is more real, but it also brings a certain degree of difficulty to the filming work.
During the filming, in order to fully present the black face of the City of God, the film production team insisted on mobilizing the entire scene to shoot regardless of the safety of their lives. Working here not only requires someone who is familiar with the local situation. The crew finally passed the police's comprehensive guard and the production team randomly changed the shooting location, so that the entire film was produced as scheduled without hurting people.
