Much of Joulutarina was filmed in the Arctic Lapland region of northern Finland. Most of the film was shot in the real world
. The crew lived a 2-hour drive from Lapland, and the daytime in Lapland was only 5 hours. The whole filming process was very hard. The film was shot 100 meters underground in the mine where the ice of the frozen lake is more than 80 meters deep

One Christmas, screenwriter Marko Leino received the most memorable phone call of his life. The other end of the phone said that he wanted to tell the world the true story of his childhood and how he became a special person.
Later, after several visits to the birthplace of Santa Claus, Lapland, Finland, Leino finally found the secret place mentioned in the mysterious phone call, which is actually the place where the only real Santa Claus lives in the legend. From this he was convinced that the person who called him was the real Santa Claus. Both Leino and film director Juha Wuolijoki believe this is an important mission
