Chinese Box evaluation action

In "Chinese Box", Wayne Wang recounts the last days of Hong Kong's return. The characters in the film map the thriving mainland, colonized Hong Kong, and Hong Kong to be changed. The director has a hunch about their fate, which is a Stories of exile and immigration.
The film symbolizes the fragility of life, the instability of a city, and the narrative is rigorous and not sloppy.
Under the theme and background of the return of Hong Kong, the protagonists are used to metaphorize the positions of the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and the mainland respectively, but the theme that should be interesting was designed to be boring by the director, and the director did not give the three actors the space they should have to play, so the film made the film become dull and uninteresting.

Chinese Box quotes

  • John: Just a week ago all I wanted was to tell Vivian how much I loved her. But now I see that's the one thing I mustn't do. I can't offload my illness onto her, or Jim, or Mary and the kids. I don't want the look in their eyes to remind me I'm dying. I wonder if I can hold out longer than the British. Not that I could be described as an empire.

  • Party Guest: You were talking about democracy. Don't forget that Hong Kong never had democracy, and Hong Kong never asked for democracy, and didn't get it until 1984. But having been given it as a present, it might miss it if it's taken away again.
