Chicago evaluation action

With a seemingly admiring tone, the film thoroughly satirizes the impetuous mentality represented by Chicago in the 1920s, and the content inside has no shortage of applications for today 80 years later. There is a classic lyrics in the film called "Killing can be an art". The wit of the film can be summarized as "Shamelessness can be an art". Rob Marshall inherited the style of Bob Foss and boldly treated the entire film as an illusion of Rossi. He gave full play to the actor's singing and dancing potential. Catherine Zeta-Jones won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and many other actors were nominated; he also endowed "Prison Tango", "Manipulation of the Media" and other scenes with superb visual creativity
Depth is not the specialty of musicals, so "Chicago" can stand out from the crowd if it has such a topical theme and colorful characterization. There are a lot of singing and dancing in "Chicago", but except for a few songs that are "telling the heart" in nature, most of the songs are narrative and contain a lot of content. The song and dance in the whole film (except for the last one) are all mental illusions of the heroine, but through the middle of the song and dance, interspersed to reflect what happened in the real world, so the song and dance are not hindered by the plot, but like a line. The train drove the story forward quickly. "Chicago" is an unfailing stage play, and the process of "translation" from stage to screen will be more restricted. The author has never seen the stage version, but when watching the film, I have repeatedly thought about what the stage version looks like, because from the movie version it is impossible to see how the scenes are handled on the stage. I think this should be the credit of the film director, who invented a vocabulary that transcends stage space. Maybe a few years later, Chinese song and dance wizards will turn the gossip news of 2002 into a pleasing and thought-provoking song and dance drama. At that time, the film and television stars had to rush to practice singing and dancing.

Chicago quotes

  • Mona: I loved Al Lipshitz more than I could possibly say. He was a real artistic guy, sensitive, a painter. But he was always trying to find himself. He'd go out every night looking for himself. And on the way, he found Ruth. Gladys. Rosemary. And Irving. I guess you could say we broke up because of artistic differences. He saw himself as alive. And I saw him dead.

  • Roxie: It'll never work.

    Velma Kelly: Why not?

    Roxie: Because I hate you.

Velma Kelly: There's only one business where that's no problem at all.
