This is Bolton’s first movie made for children, but letting him give up the black absurdity is as impossible as letting him give up his surname. The chocolate palace that Wonka built for the Indian prince melted under the scorching sun, the "various insect porridge" that he ate when he first saw the dwarf, the squirrel treats the little girl as a bad walnut, and so on. It satisfies the curiosity of children. For adult audiences, it is a gorgeous visual feast. In the creation of visual effects, no mainstream director is Bolton's opponent, but the success of the film is also attributed to Depp's unreasonable performance. Those four greedy and ignorant children might never know. It was they who unwittingly revealed the mystery of the film: money and utilitarianism can get golden tickets to enter this paradise, but they can’t buy sweets to give people a simple one.
