· Leonor Watling (Leonor Watling) asked to appear in the film, but he declined.
Antonio Resines was supposed to play one of Alatriste's sidekicks, but was injured in a car accident a few weeks before filming began. Despite this, he arrived on set with a cane.
Just many years before this film, Anthony Banderas was almost certain to direct and star in the film, and the screenplay was Enrique Urbizu.
·The film is adapted from the series of novels by the former The Kingdom of SpainWar correspondents Arturo Pérez-Reverte. His inspiration for the book came from reading the history textbooks given by his daughter Carlota's school. There is only one page above about The Golden Era (Siglo de Oro), the Kingdom of Spain in the 16th to 17th centuries AD was the superpower in the world. At the age of 14, Carlota began to help his father research this history, so he has his first novel published in 1996, the author is signed Arturo y Carlota Pérez-Reverte. Before the film entered production, five novels had been published, which can be said to be based on some important passages in the novel. The sixth novel was published at the end of 2006. Pérez-Reverte said his new book was inspired by the film.
·Display error: When Iñigo gets off the boat to the beach on the coast, a tall modern building can be seen on the left side of the screen.
Continuity: In the scene of the white flag at the Battle of Rocroix , the corpses around the soldiers of The Kingdom of Spain can be seen moving in front of different cameras.
