"Camille" directed by George Guco is one of the most prestigious classic romance films produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., based on the novel of the same name by the famous French writer Alexandre Dumas. This long-lived and popular story has been on the screen four times, but the film’s artistic achievement is the highest. This film of eternal love is permeated with a strong lyrical color and a tragic atmosphere. The mysterious girl Greta Garbo plays Alexandre Alexandre Dumas' Camille vividly, and has a perfect performance in the film. Her successful shaping of Margaret condensed her understanding, accumulation and integration of life, society, and roles, reaching the pinnacle of her performing arts, and won the Best Actress Award of the New York Film Critics Association in 1937.

Camille quotes

  • Armand: Fate must have had something to do with this. I've hoped for it so long. You don't believe me?

    Marguerite: No.

Armand: First time I saw you was a year and a half ago. You were in an open carriage, dressed in white. I saw you get out and go into a shop in the Place de la Bourse.

Marguerite: Yes, that might have happened. I used to go to a dressmaker at Place de la Bourse.

Armand: You were wearing thin dress with miles of ruffles, a large straw hat, an embroidered shawl, a single bracelet in heavy gold chain, and, of course, the camellias at your waist.

  • Marguerite: I'm not always sincere, one can't be in this world, you know.
