The film has the same style as the stage play version of the same name, and the setting is very simple. The hotel, five actors and uncomplicated special effects are the whole film. Obviously, William Friedkin didn't want to take the most disgusting and bloody horror route of mass entertainment. He turned the lens from the terrifying real world to the darker heart of the more terrifying character. The bug represents Peter's inner magic barrier, and is also the theme throughout the film-the concrete manifestation of fear.
William Friedkin is still very clever in the structure and plot of the entire film. He tried his best to make the film look concise and not procrastinated. He used a set of wrapped shots to throw the horror world hidden in the hearts of the characters into the hearts of the audience
