Baroque director Karax is famous for "Lovers in the New Bridge", which is his debut. The style is not as gorgeous and dazzling as "New", but it is sharper, and it also highlights the restless mentality of men and women in the new era. The story is obviously monotonous and flat, but the composition of this black-and-white film is quite elegant. The fixed scene settings and the gloomy atmosphere of the night all allude to the characters' inner loneliness and incomprehensible sense of loss. This film establishes the characteristics of Karax's carefulness in creating environmental layout and camera processing. The emotional cohesion and restrained processing method in the film is rarely seen in his later works.
