Film sound engineer Jack Terry (John Travolta) is a B-level horror film sound engineer. Late one day at night, when he sampled his own film, some extra sounds came from the machine. Driven by curiosity, Terry listened repeatedly. It turned out that he recorded a car falling into a nearby river due to fatigue. To his surprise, when he jumped into the river to search for the car, he found Sally Bertina (Nancy Allen) in the car was still alive and rescued her. Sally told Terry that the person with her was a highly competitive presidential candidate; Terry discovered that the car did not fall into the river due to fatigue driving, but that someone deliberately tried to hide behind the accident.
