The African continent has long circulated a saying: "If you want long life, never touch the diamond)." In some African countries, diamonds are used by the military to buy armaments. The source of funds is also the reason for the continuous campaign. Every diamond produced in a war country is stuck with the blood of African miners or war victims. Therefore, the diamond here is called "blood diamond", which is the origin of the film's title. In the war ignited by blood diamonds, Sierra Leone, a West African country, has experienced eleven years of long suffering.
Sierra Leone is located in the eastern part of West Africa, bordering Guinea and Liberia, and bordering the Atlantic Ocean. When the Portuguese sailed here from the Iberian Peninsula, they mistakenly regarded the thunder as the roar of a lion, so they named it "Sierra Leone", which means "Lion Mountain". However, since the 1990s, Sierra Leone has been plunged into a civil war that lasted for eleven years. The roar of the lion has become the scream of the people of Sierra Leone. And the cause of all this is precisely those shining and dazzling diamonds. As one of the major diamond exporters in Africa, Sierra Leone’s diamonds earn 200 million U.S. dollars a year. During the war, the money naturally fell into the pockets of the rebels to buy war weapons. It was not until the end of the civil war in 2002 that this tragic vicious circle ceased.
