When love faces life, when life faces war. When all good things are most fragile and vulnerable, the only thing that can be done is to struggle for the little hope that remains. And that little bit of beauty is already worth everything. "Birds" tells the story of the protagonist Stephen Wesford's tortuous love with a French woman, Isabella, before the war, and his military experience in World War I six years later. The past love was filled with crisp birdsong, but Aestheticism also left indelible pain in Stephen's heart. After experiencing the baptism of war, and knowing the beauty of life and the cruelty of reality, I regained hope and motivation. At this time, the war finally ended.
