The filming plan was announced in 2008, but because of Michael Douglas ' treatment for throat cancer, filming was postponed until 2010.
The film was rejected by Hollywood studios for being "too gay" and unable to surpass " Brokeback Mountain ".
When he starred in this movie, Douglas was already older than Li Buras at the time of his death. When Tolson saw Librazzi, he was only a teenager. When the relationship between the two ended, he was only 23 years old. He is played by 42-year-old Matt Damon in the film . In order to make himself younger, Damon put on a wig in the film. Douglas insisted on using his real hair to play Li Buras.
The actor in the original plan of Liberas was Robert Peter Maximillian Williams . When the film was in preparation, Philip Kaffman was the first to be interested in directing.
The villas of Liberas that appeared in the film are actually the houses of Zsa Zsa Gabor and Frédéric von Anhalt.
