Both the sublimation of the theme of the story and the personalization of the characters form an organic and closely connected whole in this uniquely structured three-stage image. Director Milcho Manchevski’s work uses experimental techniques to deal with time and space and narrative forms, emphasizing post-modern structuralism on the theme of anti-violence and anti-war.
The three-stage structure of mutual cause and effect adopted by the film in the 1990s boldly broke the constraints of time and space and completely disrupted the inherent movie time and space concept without common sense. It is undoubtedly of subversive and innovative significance. The film did not get lost in the exploration of time and space and neglected the presentation of the theme. Instead, it perfectly presented a violent incident that included three shocking impacts to the audience in a breathtaking way. In the film, the circular narrative structure symbolizes the endless war and pain. Time does not die, the circle does not end. Life is a process of reincarnation. The beginning of each story may be the end of another story. In every reincarnation, there are inevitable killings and hatreds, and there is also great love. Every time a yearning for peace and tranquility, people can vaguely see the light and hope in it.
"Пред дождот" gives the audience an extraordinary and unprecedented viewing experience with an expression that is not very logical and breaks the tradition. The director used a restrained and aesthetic lens visual language to reversely interpret a story full of sadness. But between hopeless love and national hatred, the director also uses exquisite, beautiful and quiet pictures to show the stars in the Macedonian sky and the picturesque land under the sky, which is full of the director's love for the motherland for his life. Kindness and bloodthirsty coexist, dreams and killings fly together, life looks extremely humble under the director's lens, but it is so heavy.
