"Beauty and the Beast," which aired in 1987, was the most successful show of its kind on television. This story mainly tells the love-hate entanglement between the beautiful Catherine and the lion-faced Vincent. Catherine is a lawyer in New York City, born noble, and a celebrity in the upper class; while Vincent, although gentle and elegant, can only mingle in the bottom society composed of homeless people, living in the city's sewers.
Rick Baker, a famous Hollywood makeup artist, did the makeup for "The Beast", so the lion-faced figure was undoubtedly outstanding at the time. The story is based on the classic fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" and draws on the famous 1946 French film "Beauty and the Beast" La belle et la bete (1946) ( directed by Jean Cocteau Jean Cocteau). In the third season, Catherine is killed and her place is replaced by female police officer Diana, but Catherine is still mentioned many times in the plot.
